We wanted to make a quick update regarding development progress since it has taken longer than originally anticipated to get our next update live on Steam. We have quite a few new and rebuilt systems coming to the game in these next few updates. A few major things we have been working on include a renovated backend Task system that both will improve networking in-game, as well as extended modularity for use in a new system we have been working on. A major new system that we have spent a lot of time recently building and testing is the in-game level creator tool! We know this is a much-anticipated feature and we want to make sure it works as intended before we release it to the public. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of my control, I am unable to give a confirmed date when this next update should be live as I am currently without access to my development PC. However, I should have it back early next week (Week starting 4/4) and can estimate the update should be live around a week later (in order to complete and test the functionality of the system).
To be completely transparent we would like to start off this update with a brief history of the development of The Ground Division. Many of you may have been following the development of this project over the past couple of years, although the most current iteration of the game has only been in development for a few months now. As this is my first project I may have originally announced the project before its time, while it was really still in the Prototyping phase of development. But I'm glad to announce that the game has officially been in development since June 2020. Almost all development thus far has been accomplished by a single developer with the exception of some art assets (since I am a Programmer and don't have much experience with the art portion of the project). However I will be hiring on more developers with more experience over the next few weeks to make this project what it was meant to be, but I will need your help.
Starting at the beginning of September 2020, I will be creating an Indiegogo campaign so that you can support the further development of this project. But I would like to make it clear that this is not going to be another crowdfunded survival game that dies after a few months. I am confident we can accomplish this because we are giving the community a larger role in development than ever before. We are doing this by making the early alpha builds of the project available to supporters at the end of this campaign for immediate reactions and feedback so we can continue to build a game that you, the community, want to play.
With enough support and feedback from the community, we are confident we can get this project out of closed alpha and into Early Access by early 2021 where we can continue to build this into a game you will all enjoy! While we are not yet ready to give an official date for the Early Access launch of the project, we are glad to say that we are planning on an Early Access release quite soon, so keep up with our next few updates to stay updated!
